Cryptosporidium Symptoms
Cryptosporidium Symptoms
Cryptosporidium infection is an illness that’s primary symptom is watery diarrhea, although there are other signs that may surface. This infection may be caused by drinking contaminated water, or through foods prepared by someone who has not practiced sanitary measures in preparing food. If you develop Cryptosporidium symptoms, see a doctor immediately. Some of the more common symptoms of Cryptosporidium are:
* Stomach cramps or pain
* Weight loss
* Dehydration
* Fever
* Vomiting
* Nausea
The Cryptosporidium symptoms may last as long as two weeks, although they may seem to get better and then worse again for as long as a month. People with healthy immune systems may experience these long-lasting symptoms, and others who are infected may have no signs of the illness at all. If you have watery diarrhea that does not seem to improve within 2 or 3 days, you should seek medical attention at once.
Other than food poisoning, you can become infected several different ways. Swimming in contaminated water, or having close contact with a person or pet who is infected may transmit the infection. Swallowing or placing anything in your mouth that is contaminated may also make you become ill.
Cryptosporidium symptoms can be especially concerning when they occur in certain groups of people, including babies, individuals under the age of 45 and young children. This illness may cause severe dehydration, which is particularly dangerous in pregnant women, those who have a weak immune system and the elderly. In fact, it can be life threatening.
Many people who experience Cryptosporidium symptoms pass it off as a stomach virus or flu, and never seek medical attention. While it may not be serious, those who become ill due to the carelessness of someone else may be entitled to compensation for missed work, medical bills and other expenses. Food poisoning should be taken seriously, and those responsible may be held accountable for your illness and the costs incurred because of it.
This infection may be spread by individuals visiting the toilet, then not properly sanitizing their hands. If they touch surfaces or foods where it is being prepared, the food may become contaminated. If you experience Cryptosporidium symptoms and believe it is related to food poisoning caused by negligence to practice sanitary preparation, contact a food poisoning attorney at once. You may be eligible for compensation for medical bills, lost work and other expenses.
